Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday directed officials to accelerate rural infrastructure projects, strengthen panchayat-level governance and expand women-led self-help groups across Jharkhand during separate high-level review meetings held at the state secretariat.

A major focus of the meetings remained on expansion of women self-help groups under the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS). Officials informed the Chief Minister that the government is working towards formation of 5,000 new Sakhi Mandals with a target of linking around 60,000 additional families. The state also aims to facilitate bank credit linkage worth Rs 5,000 crore for self-help groups.

Soren directed officials to encourage women associated with self-help groups to explore livelihood opportunities beyond traditional farming, including solar power generation and rural enterprises. He also asked departments to strengthen marketing support for SHG products through expansion of Palash Mart outlets within and outside Jharkhand.

During the review of Panchayati Raj Department schemes, the Chief Minister emphasised improving digital services, transparency and public service delivery at panchayat secretariats. He instructed officials to prepare a solid waste management plan for panchayat buildings with focus on segregation of wet, dry and plastic waste.

Reviewing the Rural Works Department, Soren directed officials to expedite construction and repair of rural roads while maintaining quality standards. He said improved road connectivity would strengthen economic activities in villages and improve access to essential services.

The Chief Minister also reviewed implementation of rural housing, irrigation, watershed and Birsa Harit Gram schemes and stressed the importance of water conservation for strengthening rural livelihoods.

Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Dipika Pandey Singh and senior officials attended the meetings.
